What is Smoopa?

Not sure if it's a good price? Get paid for using your smartphone to find out. Smoopa helps you decide whether to buy it in the store or online and rewards you with gift cards, rebate checks, and donations to charity.

How do I use Smoopa?

Use Smoopa for Android when you're out shopping. Scan the barcode on the packaging, select the store you're at, and then enter the price. We will compare it with other prices in our database to determine if it's a good price.

How do I earn rewards?

You may receive a special offer when you scan an item, select the store, and enter the price. If you get an offer, it will indicate what you need to buy and submit to claim the reward. You can also earn rewards for referring your friends to Smoopa.

What should I scan?

Scan just about anything in the store you are interested in buying, including books, electronics, movies, music, toys, apparel, accessories, shoes, office supplies, housewares, sporting goods, video games, beauty supplies, baby gear, and more.

Do you show shipping costs?

Yes, shipping costs are always included so you can easily compare it to the in-store price.

Can I see prices from last week?

Yes, recent prices are shown in the app so you can find out if it's really a good deal or if you should wait to make a purchase.

What happens when I track an item?

If you're not ready to make a purchase, you can track the item and we will send you an email when the price drops below your target price.

I received a special offer. Now what?

Congratulations! You can earn rewards for buying the item you just scanned. Upon confirmation, you will be able to redeem your rewards for gift cards from stores such as Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart or for donations to various charities.

Is this a scam? Why am I receiving a special offer?

We believe there is value in local information and want to reward you for contributing it. Because these prices are shared with others, it is important that they are accurate for your claims to be approved.

What proof of purchase is required?

You must submit your receipt to smoopa@smoopa.com. Tap the recommendation and follow the instructions in the app. For in-store purchases, buy the item in the store, on the date, and for the price you indicated. Make sure this information is clearly visible in the photo of the receipt you submit. For online purchases, buy the item using a listing in the Smoopa app or from www.smoopa.com/history. I have a very long receipt. What should I do?

Fold the receipt as needed to make sure the item, price, store, and date are clearly visible. If additional photos are required, you can submit them through the app.

Are special offers unique?

Yes, special offers are unique to you and the item, store, price, and date.

If I buy two of the same item, do I get two rewards?

It's limit one reward per offer, so you would only be rewarded once, regardless of how many you buy.

How do I redeem rewards?

When you build up an account balance, you can redeem it for gift cards, rebate checks, and donations to charity. Within the app, go to the Rewards tab and then tap on the blue "Redeem" button to see the current redemption options. If you haven't yet completed your profile, you will be prompted to do so.

Why do I need a profile to redeem rewards?

Certain rewards will be sent to the email or mailing address associated with your account, so please make sure to keep this information updated. It is also used to verify that you are a legal resident of the US and at least 13 years of age.

How do I change my email address or update my profile?

You can change your email address and update your profile by going to the Rewards tab in the app and then scrolling to your profile at the bottom of the page. Tapping on your name and email address will bring up the "Update your profile" page where you can edit your information. When you're done, tap "Submit" and your information will be updated.

My friend told me about Smoopa and gave me a promo code. How does it work?

Try Smoopa for Android and you'll both get a bonus with your first approved claim. Download the app to your phone and then enter the promo code when you create your account. Use Smoopa whenever you're out shopping and when your first claim is approved, the bonus will be automatically added to each of your accounts.

The item you identified does not match what I scanned. What should I do?

We rely on our partners, such as Amazon, Walmart, and Target, to provide accurate product information. When we get it wrong, please tap "Wrong item?" and then help identify the correct one.

It’s having trouble acquiring my location. What can I do?

You can search for stores by zip code when the app is unable to acquire your location. If you do not see this option, make sure you've installed the latest version of Smoopa from the Android Market.

It’s having trouble scanning a barcode. Do you have any tips?

When scanning an item, make sure to place it on a flat surface and avoid any partial shadows or glare on the barcode itself. You may also want to try moving the phone slightly further away from the barcode. If you continue to have problems, please email us at smoopa@smoopa.com with the version of Android and type of phone you're using.

Where can I find items that I have scanned in the past?

All items you have scanned will appear in your shopping history and can be accessed in the app on the history tab or by visiting www.smoopa.com/history.

How do I see what is being scanned by the community?

Use the popular tab in the app or visit www.smoopa.com/popular to see items and prices scanned by the Smoopa community. This list is updated on a regular basis, so check back often.

What are some online stores to which you compare prices?

We are constantly adding more prices to our database and currently compare prices with stores such as Amazon, Best Buy, Kmart, Target, and Walmart.

How do in-store price matches work?

Some stores such as Best Buy have a policy of matching their own online prices, letting you purchase it right away for less. Smoopa will indicate if this applies to an item you've scanned.

What is your privacy policy?

At Smoopa, we recognize that privacy is important. We will not sell your personal information to advertisers and retailers. You can find our full privacy policy at www.smoopa.com/privacy.

Do you plan to make this available for the iPhone?

Yes, we are actively working on Smoopa for iPhone and you can sign up to be notified when it is available.

What about Blackberry, Windows Phone, etc.?

We are focusing on Android and iOS devices at this time.
